I think one of the largest reasons for me was how he handled the main male and female lead. I read them again as an adult for a second time and a lot of things that I didn't pay attention to or necessarily understand when I was younger were more obvious and I didn't enjoy them nearly as much. I read the entire series as a teenager and enjoyed them.
